Lecture 22                   REGENERATION (continued)

 

 

  1. John 1:12-13

 

12凡接待他的, 就是信他名的人, 他就賜他們權柄, 作上帝的兒女.

13 這等人不是從血氣生的, 不是從情慾生的, 也不是從人意生的,乃是從上帝生的.

John 1:12, 13

12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, {even} to those who believe in His name,

13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

 -- 被收養為上帝的兒女,和重生﹕有直接的關係。

-- Direct relationship: adoption and regeneration (later).

-- 不是從血氣生的﹕血 = 復數。

-- “Not of bloods.”  Aima in plural?

-- 奧古斯丁﹕男,女。

Augustine: male and female.

還是說﹕一個系列的生出?

Or series of generations?

血堣ㄕP的元素?

Multiplicity of elements in blood?

從靈生,不是從人生,不是遺傳。

Begetting is not a matter of physical descent and heredity.

不是特權,沒有血統高貴的因素。

Not privilege, dignity from descent.

不是從情慾生的, 也不是從人意生的

 “Not of will of flesh, nor of the will of man.”

核心思想 = 人的意志。

Will = focus.  Human will in particular.

意志有道德上的因素﹕肉體(情欲)的意志。

Will is morally qualified, if flesh is taken that way.

就算肉體只是指人(肉體=人類),還是與上帝的意志(旨意)對照。

If flesh only taken generically (flesh = humanity), still, contrast with God’s will.

人意,人的意思,人的意志。

“Will of man” – andros – equivalent of anthropos?

= 男人(與女人對照)?

Or ander as opposed to woman.

男人在生育方面的主動。

Male takes aggressive part in begetting.

乃是從上帝生的。唯有上帝是重生人的那位。

“But of God.”  God alone = author of regeneration.

 

結論(與約翰31-8平衡)。

Conclusion (parallel to John 3:1-8). 

                                   

約一2:29                       

你們若知道祂是公義的, 就知道凡行公義之人都是祂所生的。

I John 2:29

If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone also who practices righteousness is born of Him.

                                   

約一 3:9

凡從上帝生的就不犯罪, 因上帝的道 (原文作種)存在他心裡。他也不能犯罪, 因為他是由上帝生的。

親愛的 (弟兄), 我們應當彼此相愛. 因為愛是從上帝來的。凡有愛心的, 都是由上帝而生, 並且認識上帝。

約一 5:1

凡信耶穌是基督的, 都是從上帝而生。 凡愛生他之上帝的,也必愛從上帝生的。

Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and whoever loves the Father loves the (child) born of Him.

                                    

約一 5:4                       

因為凡從上帝生的, 就勝過世界。使我們勝了世界的, 就是我們的心。

I John 5:4

Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and whoever loves the Father loves the {child} born of Him.

                                   

約一 5:18                        

我們知道凡從上帝生的必不犯罪。從上帝生的必保守自己 (有古卷作﹕那從上帝生的必保護他), 那惡者也就無法害他。

We know that no one who is born of God sins; but He who was born of God keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him.

-- 重生與其他聖靈恩典的果子,有著不可分開的關係。

-- Invariable association of regeneration with other fruits of grace.

-- 因此﹕重生不可以從救贖其他方面分割,抽離。

-- Therefore: Regeneration is not to be isolated from the whole application of redemption.

-- 因果方面﹕重生必須是先決條件。

-- Logical and causal priority of regeneration.

                        

約一 3:9                        

凡從上帝生的就不犯罪, 因上帝的道 (原文作種)存在他心裡.他也不能犯罪,                       

因為他是由上帝生的.          

I John 3:9

兩次﹕hoti.

2 hoti clauses. Cannot evade priority. 

他不可能犯罪。直接的關係。

He cannot sin: immediate association.

次序不能顛倒。

Order cannot be reversed.

其他經文都有這個關係。

  1. 重生不可從它的果子分開。

Inseparability of regeneration from its fruits.

 

是邏輯,因果關係;時間上的關係?不容易證明。

Logical and causal priority, yes; temporal priority, however, is difficult to establish.

(約一22947 51。)

(I John 2:29, 4:7, 5:1.)

(約一39 54 518 – 次序不同。重生的果子陪伴重生。)

(I John 3:9, 5:4, 5:18 – order is different: graces of regeneration accompany regeneration: therefore other passages – 2:29, 4:7, 5:1 – those fruits = results of regeneration also.)

一個人重生了,就是被聖靈掌管,聖靈內住。

To be regenerate = to be controlled, indwelled by the Holy Spirit.

                       

林後5:17            

若有人在基督裡, 他就是新造的人。 舊事已過, 都變成新的了。

II Cor. 5:17

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, {he is} a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.       

-- 新造的人,意思﹕那埵酗@個新的創造。        

-- New creature, lit. there is a new creation.

 

 

  1. Ezekiel 36:25-27

 

25 我必用清水灑在你們身上, 你們就潔淨了。 我要潔淨你們,使你們脫離一切

     的污穢, 棄掉一切的偶像。

26 我也要賜給你們一個新心, 將新靈放在你們裡面又從你們的肉體中除掉石

      石心, 賜給你們肉心。

27 我必將我的靈放在你們裡面, 使你們順從我的律例, 謹守遵行我的典章。

Ezekiel 36:25-27

25 “Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols.

26 “Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.

27 “I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances.

-- 先有潔淨,新心。 然後﹕順服。

-- Priority of cleansing and new heart.  Following – obedience. 

在整個重生的事情,灑水潔淨,和信心是解釋順服的原因。

In totality of ideas in regeneration, sprinkling and new heart accounts for obedience.

Warfield 368-369.

重生的根據﹕上帝直接的工作。

Root of regeneration = an immediate act of God.

 

 

4.  重生與福音的宣講。Regeneration and Gospel Proclamation.

           

A.福音不是說﹕你要自己生自己。

The gospel is not: bear yourselves, beget yourselves again.         

信心的意義﹕放棄自己堶悸滲鄐O,投奔基督。

Faith = abandonment of natural resources to Christ. 

 

B.傳福音時我們呼籲人悔改,相信,並不預設人有自然的能力信,悔改。

The gospel’s demand for repentance and faith does not presuppose natural ability in man.

 

C.改革宗的佈道者,要求人們作他們沒有能力作的事。

Reformed evangelist asks men and women to do what they cannot do. 

人們有沒有能力,並不決定 / 限制他們在上帝面前的責任是什麼。

Ability does not limit responsibility. 

我們靠聖靈的能力要求人們相信。因此﹕福音的要求與人們的回應之間的關連,不在於人們有沒有能力,而在於聖靈的能力,聖靈主權的工作。

Demand for faith is made in the power of the Spirit, therefore: link between demand and response is not human ability, but in power, sovereign work of the Holy Spirit. 

人們不相信,並不能以 重生在信心之先為藉口。聽福音者是墮落的,可是他的墮落並不能作為他不信的藉口。

No excuse for unbelief because of causal priority of regeneration.  Hearer may not plead his depravity as excuse for unbelief. 

他也不能以自己沒有被重生為不信的藉口。

Nor may he plead lack of regeneration for unbelief. 

 

D.  福音沒有要求人準備自己好被聖靈重生;也沒有要求人追求重生。

The gospel does not command men and women to prepare for regeneration, or to seek after regeneration.   

傳福音完全靠聖靈的能力;靠聖靈與福音一同作工。

But the gospel stakes everything on the Holy Spirit to accompany the gospel. 

 

威敏斯特信仰告白93   

Westminster Confession 9:3.

福音並不把人帶到自己面前;乃是帶人到上帝面前。

The gospel does not draw men back to themselves, but to God.

 

E. 我們向人傳福音,是以他們是被重生的,還是未被重生的呢? 

Do we preach to men and women as regenerate or unregenerate? 

兩者都不對。我們並不預設人回轉,或不回轉。

Neither.  We don’t presume conversion, nor lack of it.

這是上帝沒有啟示(隱秘)的事(申2929)。

隱秘的事,是屬耶和華我們上帝的,惟有明顯的事,是永遠屬我們和我們子孫的,好叫我們遵行這律法上的一切話。

Deut. 29:29

The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our sons forever, that we may observe all the words of this Law.

 

These are secret things of God (election).

因此﹕上帝隱秘的事(如﹕揀選),不是我們信仰和生活的準則。

Therefore: do not become rule of faith and practice.

我們向人傳福音,視他們為需要一位全備救主的罪人。

We preach to them as sinners who need to all-sufficient Savior.

我們傳道的事工,是鼓勵人悔改,相信,順服。

Ministry is to encourage faith, repentance, obedience. 

我們可以知道,他們是否口堜蚖{。

We do know if they have made a profession.

我們就人們的現況來服事他們。

Begin where people are.

沒有信徒可以說,他已經達到一種境界,不需要耶穌基督了。

No believer comes to the point where they don’t need Jesus Christ. 

因此,教會的事工,永遠是福音性的。

Total ministry of Church is evangelistic. 

相信,悔改 = 回轉。信徒在這事上必需堅持(堅忍)。

Repentance and faith = conversion, in which believers must persevere.
