Lectures 14-15 SPECIAL CALL (2): EFFECTUAL CALL

1. 人需要有效的恩召The need for effectual call.

a. 沒有人能回應普遍其實的呼召。

No man can respond to general call of revelation.

b. 沒有能回應福音的呼召。

No man can respond to gospel call.

弗4:18

他們心地昏昧, 與上帝所賜的生命隔絕了, 都因自己無知, 心裡剛硬。

Eph. 4:18

being darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart.

弗5:8

從前你們是暗昧的, 但如今在主裡面是光明的, 行事為人就當像光明的子女。

Eph. 5:8

for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light.

約8:34

弗2:1-2

1 And you were dead in your trespasses and sins,

Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as {coming} from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God.

-- (c.)可是，事實上人們的確回應福音。Reality of response: People DO respond.

2. 有效的恩召的《聖經》根據。The biblical warrant for effectual call.

a. 《聖經》提到呼召是指有效的恩召。

Biblical usage of “calling” is efficacious calling.

太22:14

因為被召的人多, 選上的人少。

Matt. 22:14

“For many are called, but few {are} chosen.”

--福音的呼召，是呼召。Gospel call is spoken of, as a call.

-- 慕理﹕這個用法是獨特的。 Murray: This usage is unique.

馬太22﹕14對照羅馬書8﹕30 – 呼召是針對某些特定的人嗎？

Matt. 22:14 vs. Romans 8:30 – Is calling particularistic?

換言之，預定，稱意，和得榮耀，是給某些特定的人嗎？

Or is predestination (and justification and glorification) particularistic?

林前1:9

上帝是信實的, 你們原是被他所召, 好與祂兒子, 我們的主耶穌基督一同得分。

I Cor. 1:9

God is faithful, through whom you were called into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

彼後 1:10

所以弟兄們, 應當更加殷勤, 使你們所蒙的恩召和揀選堅定不移。你們若行這幾樣, 就永不失腳。

II Pet. 1:10

Therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble.

-- 呼召這個字，是指有效的恩召。Word “call”=used as efficacious summons.

林前1:23 –24

我們卻是傳釘十字架的基督, 在猶太人為絆腳石, 在外邦人為愚拙。但在那蒙召的無論是猶太人, 希利尼人, 基督總為上帝的能力, 上帝的智慧。

I Cor. 1:23-24

23 but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness,

24 but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

林前 1:26

弟兄們哪, 可見你們蒙召的, 按著肉體有智慧的不多, 有能力的不多有,尊貴的也不多。

羅1:6

27 but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong.

彼後1:10

“These will wage war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, because He is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those who are with Him {are the} called and chosen and faithful.”

約6:44

若不是差我來的父吸引人, 就沒有能到我這裡來的. (到我這裡來的), 末日我要叫他復活。

John 6:44

“No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day.”

-- 約翰6﹕44對呼召是適合的經文，不過慕理用在重生方面。

-- John 6:44 is appropriate here, though Murray deals with it under regeneration.

b. 有關經文。Survey of biblical data.

(i) 舊約背景Old Testament background.

來11:8

亞伯拉罕因著信, 蒙召的時候, 就遵命出去, 往將來要得為業的地方去出去的時候, 還不知往那裡去。

Hebrews 11:8

By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed by going out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was going.

-- 得產業的地。Place of inheritance

(ii) 新約應驗New Testament fulfillment

來9:15

為此他作了新約的中保。既然受死贖了人在前約之時所犯的罪過，便叫蒙召之人得著所應許永遠的產業。

Hebrews 9:15

For this reason He is the mediator of a new covenant, so that, since a death has taken place for the redemption of the transgressions that were {committed} under the first covenant, those who have been called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.

--上帝應許產業。Inheritance is promised.

彼前3:9

不要以惡報惡, 以辱罵還辱罵, 倒要祝福。因你們是為此蒙召，好叫你們承受福氣。

I Peter 3:9

not returning evil for evil or insult for insult, but giving a blessing instead; for you were called for the very purpose that you might inherit a blessing.

--上帝成全（應驗）了應許。 Fulfilment of promise.

(iii) 永恆的產業。Eternal inheritance

希9:15

為此他作了新約的中保. 既然受死贖了人在前約之時所犯的罪過便叫蒙召之人得著所應許永遠的產業.

Hebrews 9:15

彼前 5:10

那賜諸般恩典的上帝, 曾在基督裡召你們, 得享他永遠的榮耀, 等你們受苦難之後, 必要親自成全你們, 堅固你們, 賜力量給你們。

I Peter 5:10

After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen {and} establish you.

提前6:12

你要為真道打那美好的仗, 持定永生. 你為此被召, 也在許多見證人面前已經作了那美好的見證（見證=認信，confession）。

I Tim. 6:12

Fight the good fight of faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

啟19:9

天使吩咐我說, 你要寫上, 凡被請赴羔羊之婚筵的有福了.又對我說, 這上帝真實的話.

Rev. 19:9

Then he said to me, “Write, ‘Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.’” And he said to me, “These are true words of God.”

(iv) 永恆產業的今生福分。

Present blessings of eternal inheritance

彼後1:3

上帝的神能已經將一切關乎生命和虔敬的事賜給我們, 皆因我們認識那自己榮耀和美德召我們的主。

II Peter 1:3

seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.

-- 一切關乎生命和敬虔的事。Everything pertaining to life and godliness.

彼前2:9

惟有你們是被揀選的族類, 是有君尊的祭司, 是聖潔的國度, 是屬 (上帝)子民, 要叫你們宣揚那召你們出黑暗入奇妙光明者的美德。

I Peter 2:9

But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR {God’s} OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.

--光明。 Light.

帖前2:12

要叫你們行事對得起那召你們進他國得他榮耀的上帝。

I Thess. 2:12

so that you would walk in a manner worthy of the God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.

--國度，榮耀。 Kingdom and glory.

帖後2:14

上帝藉我們所傳的福音, 召你們到這地步, 好得著我們主耶穌基督的榮光.

II Thess. 2:14

It was for this He called you through our gospel, that you may gain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

--基督的榮耀。 Glory of Christ.

(v) 現今的呼召﹕成聖，服事。

Present calling – Sanctification and service.

彼前1:15

那召你們的既是聖潔, 你們在一切所行的事上也要聖潔。

I Peter 1:15

but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all {your} behavior.

加5:13

弟兄們, 你們蒙召, 是要得自由. 只是不將你們的自由當作放縱情慾的機會. 總要用愛心互相服事。

Gal. 5:13

For you were called to freedom, brethren; only {do} not {turn} your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

-- 上帝賜自由 -> 呼召我們服事。Freedom = calling to serve.

西 3:15

又要叫基督的平安在你們心裡作主. 你們也為此蒙召, 歸為一體.且要存感謝的心。

Col. 3:15

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful.

-- 上帝呼召我們和睦，成為一體。Called to peace, unity, one body.

彼前2:21

你們蒙恩原是為此。因基督也為你們受過苦, 給你們留下榜樣,叫你們跟隨他的腳蹤行。

I Peter 2:21

For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps.

-- 主呼召我們效法基督的受苦。為了我們基督徒的生活方式而受苦。

-- Called to imitate Christ in his suffering, because of our lifestyle.

3. 有效恩召的本質。Nature of effectual call.

不變的。崇高的，聖潔的呼召。

Immutable, irreversible calling. High, holy calling.

上帝呼召我們的目的﹕Goal of our calling:

God is faithful, through whom you were called into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Westminster Shorter Catechism, Question 30

Q. How does the Holy Spirit apply to us the redemption Christ bought?

A. The Spirit applies to us the redemption Christ bought by producing faith in us and so uniting us to Christ in our effective calling.

-- 呼召的定義，不在於我們對呼召的回應。

-- We cannot define our calling in terms of our response.

-- 可是，既然有呼召，自然可能有回應（信心）。

-- But calling does contemplate our response (faith).

呼召如何引發信心，如何成為有效呢？

How does calling evoke faith, become effectual?

(a)藉聖靈對我們的見證，By the Holy Spirit’s testimony to us,

(b) 藉聖靈在我們裏面重生我們。By the Holy Spirit’s regeneration in us.

4. 賜恩召者﹕誰向人呼召？The agent of the effectual call.

父上帝呼召。聖靈叫人想起基督的話；聖靈作見證，使人扎心知罪。

God the Father is the author/agent of the effectual call; the Spirit brings into remembrance, bears witness, convinces.

林前1:9

上帝是信實的, 你們原是被他所召, 好與他兒子, 我們的主耶穌基督一同得分.

I Cor. 1:9

God is faithful, through whom you were called into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

提後1:8-9

你不要以給我們的主作見證為恥, 也不要以我這為主被囚的為恥。總要按上帝的能力，與我為福音同受苦難。

A. Effective calling is the work of God’s Spirit, Who convinces us that we are sinful and miserable, Who enlightens our minds in the knowledge of Christ, and Who renews our wills. This is how He persuades and makes us able to receive Jesus Christ, Who is freely offered to us in the gospel.
